Social worker and civic leader

US Navy veteran (nicknamed “the Admiral”)

He worked for the YMCA in centers throughout the West and became the Administrator for the Portland, Oregon YMCA

He developed physical fitness programs, fitness centers and camp facilities for the YMCA

He wrote a health and fitness column for Portland’s Oregonian newspaper

He has been known to many as Portland’s “Father of Fitness”

His ideas about fitness and fitness center design have been used throughout the country
