The Bingham High version of a Hall of Fame was created in 1976.  The drive to start this program was spearheaded by Linda Sandstrom, a Bingham graduate who was, at the time, a teacher and the Student Government Advisor at BHS.  The purpose of the endeavor was to inspire current Bingham students to set high standards and lofty goals for themselves by becoming aware of former Bingham Miners who had achieved success.  Linda selected a committee of longtime Binghamites which included Willard and Norma Nichols, Dick and Agnes "Tillie" Steele and Virginia McDonald.  THe committee, along with the Student Body Officers, met to determine the qualificatioins for selection and a name for the activity.  At the first meeting, Mr. Nichols came up with the name Pay Dirt Club.  The committee approved and also decided that to qualify for induction into the club a person must be a graduate of Bingham High School, achieve success in his/her chosen field and be selected by the Pay Dirt Committee.

Ivy Maker Priest, former Treasurer of the United States (Class of 1924), Andrew Contratto, prominent Eastern United States heart surgeon (Class of 1925), Avery Masters, a military colonel (Class of 1925) and Lenore Richards, successful local physician (Class of 1935) were inducted into the club the first year.

The Pay Dirt Committe, with new members added as needed, has met annually since 1976 to select the inductees who are honored during the Homecoming Assembly in the Fall.  To date, fifty-nine individuals have become members of the Pay Dirt Club.  Mr. Robert Cowdell is currently serving as chairman of the committee.  Nomination of candidates for the Pay Dirt Club may be sent to Mr. Cowdell at 13269 S. 1700 W., Riverton, Utah 84065-6108.

Framed photos of members of the Pay Dirt Club are displayed in the main hallway of the school.
